When economy is bad, your health and safety is also at risk. I’m not a racist or anything, I’m just being realistic. So let me give you a piece of advice:
BEWARE OF GYPSIES AND SHADY LOOKING PEOPLE!!!
I’m very serious about this. Because the bad economy, the lack of jobs, the price of iron, or whatever they were stealing and selling, has gone down, etc., some people have changed their tactics. Stealing, beating random people and taking their money, breaking into homes, etc. have now become a main income source.
You can see them everywhere, in buses trying to steal phones or money from your pockets, and if you dare say anything you’re gonna get it (half the people in the bus are gypsies or thieves that know each other). So, I advice you to take the subway (the subway is the safest way to move around in Bucharest because there are a lot of security people and because you can’t get in if you don’t pay), walk home (if you work close to home) or if you really have to take the bus make sure you don’t have any valuables on you.
Don’t wear jewelry. Today, girls especially, have this thing for huge gold earings and gold chains, I think they call it fashion or something like that. Every time I see a girl with gold accesories on her I remember about one of my teachers. In the 8th grade, one of my teachers ended up in the hospital after she was stalked and beaten on her way home by a guy who was trying to steal her bag and jewelry (she had gold rings on all her fingers). She was a pretty big woman and very smart, so she threw herself on her bag and started screaming for help. She only got beaten and for 3 months she didn’t came to school. When she did came back, she had only silver jewelry.
But the main thing that I am concerned is the home breaking. I already went throw that once when I was in high school (I was the only one that was left without clothes, money and my ID card, cause my parents were broke at that time, and the ones that broke in were girls). I don’t like my space being invaded even by my parents, so let’s not talk about strangers. The worst part is they have already started looking to see which homes are left alone and at what times. Seriously, they even have the guts to see if the door is locked or not, and the owners are home at that time. So it’s freaky and extremely scary when you think about what this people are capable of.
I’m just saying that everyone should look after their own safety. I’m actually thinking of places where I can put my laptop so I won’t have any surprises.
