Agneepath (2012)

It’s that time of the month when my system just craves for a Bollywood movie.

The lucky winner this time was Agneepath (2012).

Agneepath Movie Poster

The movie is a remake. The original Agneepath was made in 1990, the main role being played by Amitabh Bachchan. Apparently the original was a big success and the producers of the remake were under pressure to make a good movie. So, the main characters in Agneepath (2012) are played by Hrithik Roshan (as Vijay Dinanath Chauhan), Priyanka Chopra (as Kaali), Sanjay Dutt (as Kancha Cheena) and Rishi Kapoor (as Rauf Lala).

They picked as main actors the most handsome actor in Bollywood, a former Miss World, the guy in Bollywood that is known for his bad guy roles and someone who’s been in the industry so long that everybody knows him. It was kinda hard to go wrong with this casting.

The movie lasts 3 hours, has 3-4 songs in it, not that much action (compared with other Bollywood movies), but it has a good story line.

The movie takes it time telling the story of Vijay, a small kid on the island of Mandwa, who witnesses the lynching of his father. Vijay’s father was a good man, a teacher in Mandwa. His only fault was he was too good. Because of this Kancha frames him for raping a little girl and from there the lynching. Vijay knows his father is innocent and swears revenge. But what can a little kid do? So, Vijay and his mother move to Mumbai where they end up in brothel with Kaali and her mother.

Agneepath movie still

From there Vijay becomes the right hand of Rauf Lala, a gangster who deals with cocaine and human trafficking. Rauf Lala is an enemy of Kancha and Vijay sees an opportunity to get the power he needs to take down Kancha. But Vijay isn’t such a bad guy, even if he kills people and all that. He gives away all the money that he makes, he keeps everyone he cares for safe and in the end he makes up his mind to take down Rauf Lala and Kancha.

In the process, Kaali is killed right on their wedding day, his mother and little sister are kidnapped by Kancha and right at the end Vijay dies, but not before taking down two of the most powerful drug cartels in Mumbai. Its a bitter sweet ending for the main characters because none of them get what they dreamed of and all end up dead.

I can’t complain about the movie, it was good. But it was not my piece of cake since I enjoy mostly romantic Bollywood movies. Nothing beats a good Bollywood romance.

East European Comic Con

5 MORE DAYS!

I’ve bought the tickets since December and I can’t believe that there are only 5 more days till Comic Con!

EastEuropeanComicCon

This is really an amazing event that I just can’t wait to go to. The only downside of this is the fact that I’m actually working, both on Saturday and Sunday, from 4PM.

So, I’m stuck not knowing what to do. I can either take a day off from work, ask someone to do my shift or skip work altogether and go wild.

I’m just so torn up, I  WANT TO GO and just waste time and money.

When I first bought the tickets I planned on going just to buy stuff and that’s it. But now, I’m looking on their website and I’m just crying a lil bit inside.

John Rhys-Davies (from “Lord of the Ring” and “Sliders”) will come to the convention. I’m just looking and the website and an autograph from him is 50Ron. That’s not much, but considering I was planning to spend no more than 100Ron (trying to be rational here) kinda makes it hard for me. So I decided to go as high as 300Ron for this convention, hopefully I won’t overspend.

John Rhys-Davies

For me to actually be able to get an autograph from this big guy I’ll have to go on Sunday. But I’m not going alone, since I have 2 tickets. Johnny said he’ll pass this one out and I’m actually going with a colleague from work. But she’s in Germany at the moment and she will be back at the end of week.

I want to make plans and set things straight.

Then there are the many shops with merchandise! I’m so excited I can’t even describe the feeling.

I feel like a little kid that will go to the amusement park for the first time and doesn’t know what ride to try first.

I’m one sure of one thing, I’m taking my new photo camera with me and I’ll go wild with photo’s. I want lots and lots of photos of this event.

I Miss You (Korean Drama)

I actually made time in my hobbies/free time schedule for Korean dramas. Even if most of the Romanian TV channels air daily Korean dramas I never actually have the time to watch them.

My only option is to watch them online if English subtitles are available.

Last year I watched one Korean drama “Lie to Me” and even that series I was unable to finish. So, while I was looking up again the entire series for “Lie to Me” I started watching the recently completed series “I Miss You“.

I only watched the first two episodes of the drama. Each episode is one hour long.

I must say the first episode was very confusing. In the first 20-30 minutes a lot of things were going on and it was hard to tell the relationship between the characters. But I managed to figure out what was going on.. eventually.

Basically the “plot” starts with two different situations:

  • Soo-Yeon (played by Kim So-Hyun) is a 15 year old kid who is bullied at school because of her father is a murderer. Also, her home life with her mother is not actually very pleasant since they are barely scrapping off  and the entire world seems to be against them.
  • And there is Jung-Woo (played by Yeo Jin-Ku) who comes back to Korea from America wanting to be more closer to his family. But what he doesn’t know is that his family is in a feud over a huge sum of money.

And around this time Soo-Yeon meets Jung-Woo. They have a rough start since Jung-Woo ignores Soo-Yeon after he learns about her father but soon has a change of heart. Then they start hanging out and Jung Woo even protects her as much as he can from the bullying at school.

i miss u

Then, they grow up and lose touch with each other.

The second episode ends with the grown up version of Jung-Woo (played by Park Yoochun) sitting on the stairs of Soo-Yeon old home just contemplating his memories and wanting to reunite with his old love.

The first two episode were really cute to watch. For the time being I am enjoying this drama and hopefully the next episodes will be as interesting.

T-ara issue

All my usual news sources for kpop are full of stories regarding the issue with the original T-ara members and now ex-member Hwayoung.

This issue is just funny and sad at the same time. It just shows how the media and the fans can be manipulated in picking one side or another.

I’ll just start with this: the original T-ara members have been picked on by netizens ever since their debut. I remember this because they had so many weird concepts before they actually debuted that everyone just made fun of them.

Truthfully at that time I didn’t even pay attention to them.

Then the good days came when they had some hits and the members were being noticed for their talents (vocals, acting, variety show skills and so on).

It was all going well until their CEO decided to add new members to the group. After all its more profitable to add members to an existing popular group than to start from scratch.

And here comes Hwayoung.

At first she seems out of place. She just sticks out from the rest with her build and her way of being but yet everything seems fine and she becomes recognized as a T-ara member.

During this time a lot of things happen, members get hurt but are forced to go on stage and do their job, they are being over worked, Hwayoung has her nip slip accident, but everything passes.

Then the CEO announces more members to be added.

Why do they need more members? T-ara already has members that are barely active (hello have you forgotten about Q-ri and Boram?). Okay, the fans get over this one as well. T-ara is turning into After School so how bad can that be.

At this time Hwayoung injures her leg and she refuses to go on stage even when she is offered to sit down. Good for her! Nobody should work when they are injured. But the situation is not so good for the others, hence Hyomin and Eunjung are forced to learn Hwayoung lines and they mess up on national television. You can guess that there will be some frustration.

After all, when Eunjung was injured she took pills and performed on stage and even carried on with her acting. And the other original member seem fustrated about the situation. So they scold Hwayoung on Twitter. Yeah, not a good move but still can you blame them.

Can you blame them all?

I seriously think that the management is the problem for this entire thing. First of all, being overworked will make people a lot more grumpy than they would normally be. Second, if you force some members to perform while injured yet you allow others to back out in the same situation, well you’re going to have a bad time. And the members will most likely start resenting each other.

And that’s what happened.  The original T-ara members started resenting Hwayoung. She didn’t go through the same things that they did. She did not put the same effort as they did, yet she is enjoying the success of the group.

Frustration at its best. Its just a pity that netizens can’t see this from a more objective point of view and they immediately started pointing fingers at the company, the original members and they are making Hwayoung into a victim.

Again bad management can ruin a popular group. They should’ve left the group in its original state without adding or subtracting members, without rotating the leaders (Eunjung was a good leader) or making stupid statements.

Such a shame…

Just a small surprise at work

Yesterday was Sunday and while most people were out still enjoying their weekend I had to work the afternoon shift.

It wasn’t a big deal because it was actually and easy day and I actually got some interesting calls. But by far the most interesting was a call from a certain Kate Gosselin. Well at first it seems just like a normal lady calling for some info, but after a few more minutes with her on the phone I realized that this was “the” Kate Gosselin from the famous TV show “Jon and Kate plus 8″ from TLC.

How cool is that? I even asked her is she was who I thought she was and she said “Maybe” but even her voice was the same. I actually told my co-workers and they said I was being crazy for being so cheery after talking with her. OK, it might not be a big deal, but I thought about why people get excited when they talk with TV personalities. In my case it isn’t that I am a big fan or that I enjoy running after celebrities in my free time.

I was just happy that I got to talk with someone I’ve seen on TV and have a normal conversation with that person. I mean what are the possibilities to talk with foreign celebrities when you live in Romania? Pretty slim actually, I was even lamenting to Johnny how Roxette is coming to Romania to hold another concert at Cluj and how much I would love to go see them. Yet I have no chance of going to Cluj any time soon.

So who knows, maybe I’ll get more interesting calls in the future.
