How many people out there still send postcards or letters these days? Not many considering the population of Earth and today’s technology.
I still remember sending just two postcards when I was little. It was my first time at the sea side and my cousin encouraged me to pick a card to send to my grandma and one for my parents. I doubt the postcards still exist today but it was fun sending them and I hope they were well received, even if I was away from home for 2 weeks.
But I never received a postcard… until now.
About a month ago I found this website: Postcrossing.com. It’s a really cool site that allows you to send/receive postcards to/from random people from all over the world. You can also swap postcards or even snail mail with people that are also interested.
I’ve already received 4 postcards and two letters, I’ve already mailed two postcards and today at the post office I have to send 7 postcards and 1 letter. It’s actually really fun and just receiving the letters is really heartwarming. That and I realized that I can swap with people from my favorite countries (Japan, India, South Korea etc.). I love having things from countries that I would like to visit in the future.
So far I’ve received postcards from:
This was the first postcard I received and it really made my day after a long day at work.
I requested on my profile that I would love people to write in their own native language and these two didn’t disappoint. I have “homework” later today by translating these two.
And last, but not least, this was a swap between me and a girl from Taiwan. She was really nice and I can’t believe how fast her postcard arrived. I hope mine will reach it’s destination as fast as hers.
What was even more funny was that mother was also interested in my postcards and kept asking me what they said and where they were from. I actually can’t wait to receive one from South Korea because I know for sure she’ll enjoy it more than I will.
