Either you run the day, or the day runs you.

Either you run the day, or the day runs you.

I can honestly say, I’m in the second category. I have so many things I would like to do and it’s impossible to do them all. I usually get stuck at cleaning. It’s hard work, but I have to do it.

I sometimes have this crazy urges of throwing everything out. I mean, we don’t use half of the stuff we have in this house. I don’t use half of the things I own. No matter how much I throw away, there is still plenty left in the house.

And I want to do other things with my day than clean. I need to straighten things out around here.

Cooking 101: Pork Stew with Green Peas

After eating pizza, fries with any type of meat and just junk food in general we’ve decided it’s time for us to cook. Better said, it’s time for me to cook. After all, I’m the one that has nothing to do all day long.

So, I cooked my first real meal (after that soup I’ve made a few months ago). I’ve made pork stew with green peas. I’ve found a recipe that was actually with beef. Now, I didn’t have beef and since we decided not to waste food anymore I used pork instead.

It was so easy to make and fun as well. For start to end, it took almost an hour (with photo breaks as well). I only need pork meat, 1 onion, 1 carrot, tomato sauce, frozen green peas, salt and pepper.

I didn’t measure the quantity of each ingredient, but mostly added as much as I thought the two of us would eat. My goal was to make something we could eat for a day. If we don’t finish the food in one day, we’re not gonna eat it the second day.

It went like this:

1. I heated the oil and added the meat. The meat was cut in small pieces. I fried the meat till it turned a little brown.

2. I added the onion and the carrot (which were also sliced in small pieces).

3. After 5 minutes, I added 2 spoons of tomato sauce (the original recipe said 1 spoon, but I like the home made tomato sauce my mom makes).

4. After another 5 minutes, I added the frozen peas. I’ve waited for them to defrost. Then I added enough water to cover the content.

5. The original recipe said to wait about an hour for it to be done. I’ve only had to wait 30 minutes since the quantity was smaller then what it said on the website. I’ve stirred the content every 5-10 minutes, added salt and pepper almost at the end.

It turned out good. And if I had to rate my attempt, I would give myself a 8 out of 10. I dropped a little bit too much pepper and I could feel it when eating.

I’m actually proud I made something decent that is not fried. I’m also doing some research for easy recipes that Johnny would eat as well. And that’s not an easy task considering he doesn’t eat a lot of things.

Everything is a little better

Things are better but there’s still room for improvement.

Pluto (aka Smotocel) is much better. His fur started growing back, even if he looks like a raggedy doll. Marlanu’ found a playmate. Thosse two are really funny the way they run around the house and play. (more…)

Health scare

I don’t know how but we just have this really bad luck when it comes to pets. With Marlanu’ we were expecting him to have health issues since he was a stray. But, we weren’t expecting Pluto (Smotocel) to have so many health issues since we bought him from a breeder.

He gave us quite a scare 3 days ago. The day started so nice, everything was OK. There were no signs that he might be feeling ill, until he pooped something out of a horror movie and was throwing up. We went straight to the local vet, who gave him some shots and advised us to not give him any food or water till the next morning. Instead, to make sure we give him mint tea for his stomach pains.

We followed her instructions and it was basically an all-nighter for me, and Pluto wasn’t getting any better. Marlanu’ was the reason why I woke up Johnny and went straight to the animal clinic at 3AM.

Usually Marlanu’ sleeps with John and Pluto sleeps with me. Well, Marlanu’ didn’t leave Pluto alone at all. Wherever the dog went, the cat followed.

Pluto and Marlanu'

At the animal clinic we did multiple tests, including the one for parvo. Fortunate for us, he doesn’t have parvo, but after an X-ray we learned that his intestines we’re bloated in some areas and blocked in others, and he had a lot of gas in him. Which made his tummy hurt really bad and made him really sick.

Pluto

The vet didn’t allow us to take him back home since he got so sick in such a short period of time. We didn’t argue with him, since we we’re both tired and unable to properly look after him. We did visit Pluto the second day, he was better but still needed treatment. We we’re only able to take him back home yesterday morning. He is better, but he is on a diet, he has to go to the vet daily (for his treatment) and we also are treating him at home for his ear infection. And I won’t mention his skin condition for which we will have to get other tests done to see what exactly is the cause.

Pluto

While I am happy that Pluto is back home and is feeling better, playing around, eating properly and just being a normal pup, I am pissed that there is nothing that we can do to report the breeder. Apparently, the dog should’ve come with a warranty (seriously?!?) and there is no law that can force the breeders to improve the conditions they keep their dogs (as long as they are feed and given water, plus the fake health certificates).

The warranty part pisses me off the most. I got a dog not an appliance. Since when do living things need a warranty? I understand the pedigree part, but why a warranty?

Seriously, what’s wrong with people these days?

My favorite time of the year

It’s that time of the year when the cold starts to make its presence felt. That’s my favorite time of the year.

It’s a gloomy day, it’s windy and it’s raining. It’s perfect.
